haunted3It’s the first weekend in October and you know what that means? That means haunted houses will be popping up all over the country. Now, I love haunted houses and horror movies more than most people, so I make it my duty to visit at least a million every Halloween season.

Because of my love for the houses, I’ve become an expert on what not to do in a house. Here are some things to keep in mind when you visit these houses of horror. I also have several family members and friends who are working in someone of the biggest houses in the United States, so I’ve talked to them about what you, the reader, can do to so you can avoid being ‘that guy’. Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead!

Today is the release of the anticipated thriller film The Purge from the producers of Sinister and Paranormal Activity. If anyone knows me they know that I love horror and thriller films of all kind, especially the ones by the previously mentioned producers. Their films are scary (the first Paranormal Activity, Sinister, Insidious) and if they aren’t scary they are at least entertaining to watch if not a bit predictable (the other Paranormal Activity films).  The Purge was neither scary nor entertaining. If I had to describe the film in a single word I would have to use the word frustrating.  I was frustrated with the characters, mostly the son. I was frustrated with the plot. I was frustrated with everything.

Child abuse comes in many forms. But the one that has me worried since it is considered acceptable by society is toddler beauty pageants. These “friendly competitions” are extraordinarily detrimental to these little girl’s well being, both physically and mentally.

My sister is addicted to the show, mainly to a contestant named Makenzie Myers, who is considered one of the superstars of pageantry. Yes, these pageants have superstars and these girls do whatever it takes to win the title of “Ultimate Grand Supreme”.

However, when I say the girls do whatever it takes, I really mean the moms. These mothers stop at nothing to make sure their daughters win. When interviewed about why their little girls are in pageantry, a good percentage of the mothers respond with “she (the daughter) just loves competing” or “Because she is number one.” Most mothers say that their daughter is the one who wants to compete, but what six-year-old child would want to be spray tanned and have fake teeth put in? Want to spend hours a week on practicing their smile and posture? There may be a small amount of children who want this but the vast majority of the children ages 6-months to 14 years, compete because their moms make them. Continue reading →

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher has had a year full of medical problems, including broken ribs and a “frozen shoulder,” but as she told Prevention in their June issue, it’s not slowing her down in finding love and happiness.

Hatcher’s medical problems began when she turned 45 after she cracked two ribs falling off a ladder while helping build a stage for her daughter’s birthday party.  Then, while filming ABC’s hit reality show Desperate Housewives, she broke another two ribs while pole dancing.  But all of these maladies have taken a backseat to her “frozen shoulder.”  Frozen shoulder, medically referred to as adhesive capsulitis, causes stiffness and chronic pain in the shoulder area and greatly restricts movement of the arm.  It’s sometimes associated with perimenopause (which Hatcher has stated that she does not have), and is found in women between the ages of 45 and 55.  The disease lasts for about two years, and then, just like magic, disappears. As all of the paparazzi and news stories hit, the Pulse Creative team takes a deep breath, gives some high-fives, pats on the back and some of us needed a full day of the boss’s personal recuperation medicine (aka a day at the spa).

It was an amazing event due to the grand visions of the Chmerkovskiy and Volynets families, who were great to work with as always. But behind the scenes our little team of idiot savants wind down and give me the inside scoop to how intense and challenging the project was. Here are some of the perspectives from the Pulse team:

LEGOLAND (R) Florida is the newest theme park in the Orlando, Florida area (Winter Haven, FL to be exact). In fact, it is impossible to go anywhere in Orlando without seeing LEGOLAND commercials, signage, and advertising.

But when someone builds a theme park in Orlando they are competing against both Walt Disney World and Universal, and to put it simply LEGOLAND (R) Florida is not in the same galaxy, let alone state, as those premier theme park giants.
